Continuing the Tradition

One of the things my family always enjoys are our Sugar Cookies cut in the shapes they grew up with.

This is the rolling pin and the cookie cutters that I was given at my wedding shower.  I think this was kind of a standard assortment that everyone had at the time.  These are the shapes I always used when my children were small and the same ones my grandchildren grew up with. Now these are the ones that my great-grandson always looks for.  His favorite is the pony.

A pony, reindeer, camel, christmas tree, angel and santa for the Christmas season.  They are old and don’t cut really sharp anymore, but I still love them and love using them.

The shapes bake up just fine.

I grew up in a very loving family with very simple and limited means, but my mom always made cookies at Christmas.  No fancy frosting, just sprinkled with sugar, so that is the way I have always made them.  After they cool, the excess sugar shakes off and they are stored in Zip-lock bags until time to serve.

I use the recipe card that my mom wrote for me, one that I have used now for over 55 yrs.  I think this is the best recipe ever.  If you don’t have a favorite, you might want to try this one.

My baking is almost done except for pies for Christmas dinner,  I still need to find more stocking stuffer gifts, then I can say I am done. (Update, a trip to Target and the Dollar Tree and the stockings are super full.)  How about you, are you almost ready to relax and enjoy the season.
