I Definitely Need More Practice

I have drooled over all the ASCP makeovers all over blogland, but I havn’t had anything to paint for a while.  I had this little sample pot of Graphite by ASCP so when I found this cute little pic at GW, I thought the frame could use a little makeover and the Graphite would be just the ticket.

Love the cow and the sheep and the letters painted on glass.  I hung it over the stove and definitely think it needs something.

See the frame is just a yellow paint color and not really pretty.

Out came my ASCP paint and I got to work and then distressed it a little.  Next I used clear past wax and buffed away.  Well, I can’t say this is my favorite look.

I hung it back up over the stove and still thought it was actually kind of ugly.

I don’t know a lot about distressing, but this looked so flat and blah, so I grabbed my favorite remedy for everything, Minwax Dark Walnut Stain and went over the entire piece.  I also grabbed a red marker and highlighted a few areas.  Seems like it had a lot more depth now and a lot more character.

 See some of the red.

Back up on the wall.  Well it is still under consideration.  Better but not my favorite by far.  Thank goodness it is only paint so I can start over with something else.

I will live with it for a while and see what I think.  One thing for sure, when it comes to these kind of finishes, I definitely need a ton more practice.

So what have you painted lately?
