I’ve seen several different posts fellow bloggers have done that share a bit about a typical day in their life. I get questions all the time about how I manage my days. Most of you know that I am no longer in the corporate world, so I guess for a profession I would have to say I am a full-time blogger. Add in family, friends and tons of entertaining and my days are full and fun. Since I work from home that means my days are really different than when I worked in the corporate world. So for fun, I thought I would answer your questions with – A Day In The Life.
I’m an early riser, so I am always up by 5:30 am. Most days earlier. I throw on my robe, head down these stairs and into the kitchen to turn on the coffee pot. While it is brewing I turn on the lights downstairs. Then I walk around for a few minutes straightening up the house. Once the coffee is done, I pour a cup (black) and head back up these stairs to the loft area where my office is. Then I will look at my blog to make sure everything posted on time and check my emails.
After my coffee, I am off to the bedroom – make the bed and then head for the bathroom to get ready. Makeup and hair are simple since I will be home most of the day.
Now it is time for another cup of coffee. (I also make a bagel for my hubby for his breakfast) Back to my office area to spend some time answering emails and correspondence, then checking my blog and answering any questions left on the blog. I like to check in to see what you guys are posting for the day at this time too. I usually spend at least an hour or more doing these chores.
I really enjoy my “girl cave/office”. It has plenty of room to relax. I like to plan out my post ideas for the month and make sure I have any Collaborations, Tours or Link Parties scheduled and get my ideas together for those posts. Depending on what is scheduled for the week, this can take a few minutes to a couple of hours.
I like to see things in writing, so I do use a Day Planner and a Calendar. I can relax on the loveseat or leather chair to plan, then back to the computer to nail everything down in more detail. I like to do a draft post where I jot down ideas for DIY Projects, Makeovers, or Brand Collaborations.
By now it is around 9:30 am, so I am back downstairs to start my chores. I like to take a tour of the house and straighten up everything. If I need to swiffer or dust this is when it gets done. I function best when the house is in order. Now is the time to think about dinner plans. I decide on a menu and prep anything that needs early prep. I do one big shop a week, so I usually have everything on hand that I might need.
Around 11:00am I usually have a Protein Bar. Then it is time to work on a DIY Project, Room Makeover or whatever I have on an upcoming blog post schedule. I love to swap out pillows and accessories to create a whole new look, so as you all know, I do that often. I can spend a couple of hours re-arranging a room or longer. Sometimes a new idea falls together and then sometimes things are trial and error. If I have a project finished, it is time for more photos. I like to make sure that I have before and after pictures, so my camera and tripod are always on call to document the before, after and in process.
New Blinds For Family Room
Somewhere in the middle of this I usually have a sandwich or cottage cheese for lunch. (I am now back on the bandwagon to lose those last 15 pounds.)
It takes time to style, take pictures and then edit them, so most of this is done in the afternoons. My house gets fabulous light, so afternoons are great for photos. Blogging takes about 5 to 6 hours of my day each day. Sometimes it is creating and sometimes it is visiting all of you. I enjoy my office space since it is located in the loft area and I can see half the house downstairs. I never feel like I am closed in or don’t know what’s going on.
Even if I didn’t have a blog I would still change up my home often. I love to decorate and I love to create different spaces and vignettes in my home. Blogging is a great outlet for me to share my passion and to enjoy yours as well. I try to have at least a week’s worth of posts done and scheduled in advance. This allows me to relax and take a day off whenever I want to or when something fun pops up that I want to do with hubby or friends.
By 5:00 pm I am usually in the kitchen cooking dinner. We enjoy light meals on most days. So some type of grilled meat, steamed veggies, and a salad are our favorite. We love Mexican, so Enchiladas or Tacos are easy and on our menu often.
Dinner with hubby and catch up with each other for the day. Afterward, I clean up the kitchen and fix the coffee pot for morning coffee. Then time for dessert in front of the TV with hubby and settle in for the evening. We watch some of our favorite TV shows and are usually in bed by 9:30. Unless I have errands to run or a fun lunch date with friends, this is a pretty typical day.
I try to keep my weekends free so we can entertain, have a date night or work on a project together. When my house is full of family or friends is when I love it the most. Cooking and Baking for them is another passion that I love. Sharing some of my favorite recipes with you guys is always fun too.
I feel blessed to be able to work with some wonderful Brands to make extra money from my blog and most of all I love the virtual and personal friends that I have made through my blog. You all add so much to my day each day and I can’t thank you enough for your friendship. Being able to do what I love each day and being surrounded by my friends, family and loved ones are BLESSINGS I don’t take for granted. THANK YOU for stopping by and following along with my world and THANK YOU for allowing me to follow along with your world too.
Hi Marty,
Your day is similar to mine. I do have some babysitting days and days I take care of my mom in my mix but I spend the majority of my days at home reading blogs, sharing my blog and taking care of my small business things I do on FB Market Place. I think I spend more hours working on these things than when I worked full time! Have a great new week ahead.
Hugs,
Kris

Hi Marty,
I enjoyed a day in your life and feel as if I were visiting with you. Thanks for sharing this. This was fun!
I loved reading about your day! Now I know your secret to getting so much done each day–5:30AM. That is so great 🙂 XO, Amy
It’s fun to read how your day progresses. I know how checking out other’s blogs can take lots of time depending on what other’s are posting. And I know how a single post can take minutes (rarely) or hours. I’m hoping it doesn’t seem like too much of a chore! Your blog is one of my favorites.
Thanks so much. No I don’t think my blog is a chore at all. I love it and I love having it. Thanks so much for being a faithful follower. Marty
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend your days, Marty, in your gorgeous home doing what you love!
I loved reading this post, Marty. I love how honest you are about your time, and how you described your schedule so concisely. Your schedule is my dream… maybe someday, when I’m not in the corporate world any longer. 😉
I really enjoyed this post Marty! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for letting us know how your day unfolds, Marty. As a fairly new blogger, I’m still getting a handle on things and it really does help to know how other bloggers go about getting the job done.
